In the immortal words of Charlton Heston…

The bill of rights did not give Americans certain rights, it reaffirmed ones we already had. Ones we had won from the English government. It was the infringement of these very rights that sparked the American Revolution.

Certain groups have always attempted to limit, or restrict American rights guaranteed by the Constitution. This is especially true when it comes to the Second Amendment, or the right to bear arms.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” - Constitution of the United States of America.

The “right to bear arms” is not designed for self defense, hunting, or other purposes. Although these tend to be good uses and justification for its existence. It is designed to ensure the continuation of the rest of the freedoms and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution. It is the last check and balance against the government of the United States of America. It is that one last tool we are comforted by its existence, but hope to never use.

The second amendment guarantees United States citizens a venue for removing an unjust, and corrupt government from power. It ensures totalitarian leadership, and authoritarian states cannot exist. As long as the citizens have a means of defending themselves, the United States will remain a free country. Once that right becomes infringed upon, you can kiss your free livelihood good bye.

We need to take into consideration what might be lost by advocating stricter gun control, or banning them alltogether. Calling for an immediate solution to long-lasting problems could cause drastic consequences. Temporary safety could lead to lasting dictatorship. You have a right, do not give it away.
